Based in and serving the greater Wellington region, including Lower and Upper Hutt, Practical People Solutions is a HR and Safety Consultancy created specifically to meet the needs of employers big enough to have HR and Safety challenges, but small enough to not warrant the ongoing cost of hiring a full time HR or Safety employee.

Working closely with you and by carefully understanding what you need and why you need it, we give you structure, guidance and skills so that you can focus on your business' commercial success knowing that your people challenges are in safe hands.

While some organisations can and do benefit from once-off or limited guidance, there are often circumstances where ongoing expertise is more beneficial, and a long term relationship can be established to prioritise consultant availability and guarantee consistency of support and advice.

How We Do It

Ad Hoc Support

We are available for general advice and support, and offer 24/7 support for clients by prior arrangement. Advice is provided telephonically, by email, or though on-site visits and consultation, as the need arises.

Relationship based support

A retainer based arrangement can enable a long term value-add where a client reserves availability, whether off-site or on-site of a certain number of house per week/month to ensure that their HR and Safety needs are receiving regular attention and support. This also can be made up of on-site or remote support.

Consultant Profile

Vaughan Granier (AHRINZ)  is an experienced HR and Safety Generalist with over 20 years’ experience around the globe as HR leader for companies ranging from 50 to 17,000 employees. He qualified as a lawyer in South Africa focussing on Labour Law and Criminal law, and transitioned into Human Resources in the ‘90s, working primarily in the volatile construction industry in South Africa and then in Dubai until the GFC of 2008.

He relocated to New Zealand in 2009, and is now an NZ citizen. He has worked in Human Resources and Safety in Public Health, Software, and Construction. He has also worked for Trans-Tasman companies and is very familiar with Australian HR and Health and Safety law. He understands people and he understands business, and is focussed on facilitating your business success through building easy-to-use systems and processes, and maximising your team's potential and your talent.

His passion is building a useful, simple to operate, business focussed and practical HR solution for companies, and has achieved great success in doing this.

With deep MS Excel skills Vaughan has also contributed strategically to business success by developing numerous tools for measuring and analysing key business metrics such as workforce and labour planning, profit and loss forecasting and work scheduling. He is skilled in payroll systems, HRIS and technology. He has sat at the executive table and is a trusted partner to business owners and leaders in developing appropriate HR and Safety strategies to contribute to the business goals.

Health and Safety

Vaughan has built and refined robust Health and Safety systems, notably in the high risk scaffolding/ construction environment, and delivered projects ensuring health and safety industry accreditation including ACC and CPNZ. He is skilled in system development,incident and accident investigation, root cause analysis and Worksafe liaison. In addition he has developed valuable training material around risk awareness and safe behaviour on site.
